"On my birthday I want to sit on a terrace in Rome in the sunshine and drink a cappuccino", said the Flying Dutchman after half a year of cold and rain and wind and dark clouds and a leaden sea in the Netherlands.
The sun is shining and spring comes just around the corner - even quicker than the marathon runners who blocked a lot of streets - no way to cross the road to get to the Campo da fiori on our first of five days here though our hotel was very near.
"Look, look!"
And good-bye Roma!
Wundervoll - Romreise - YES!
DeleteI am really pleased that the Flying Dutchman's hopes were met and that you were able to be there with him too. There is so much to see and do in Rome, a place that brings back lots of happy memories for me too.
ReplyDeleteDear Rosemary, yes, we were lucky to have sunshine - the 17th of March is not always reliable.
DeleteIsn't it great, dear Rosemary, that we have so many travels to remember and dream of - so uplifting and mellow. You have seen so much more of the world, and we can be very thankful for that.
I remember a quote by Rhama Tinta (I think): "Have you lived your summer well? Then winter will be good to you."
I send you and your family all my good wishes! Britta
lovely pictures of Rome. The ice cream looked really tasty.
ReplyDeleteDear Mimmylin, thank you! The ice cream-"flower" was a little piece of art (and I do not regret to have bought it). Such a lovely start into the warmer season!
DeleteDid you tour Villa Medici? I am too old to fly now, so all I have seen are the favourite tourist views on line.
ReplyDeleteDear Helen, we were not inside the building this time. I was hunting for a special way to enter the gardens of the villa Borghese (which I have seen 5 years ago in summer), but that wasn't so easy.
DeleteRome, this huge city is offering so many sights and attractions - and we only had a few days, well divided between culture and senses. I loved the laughter and vivacity in Rome.
I am not sure whether a long flight to Australia or Japan is still on my wishliste - the countries: yes - the long flight: only maybe.
Looks like a wonderful trip.
ReplyDeleteYes, dear Joanne, it was a wonderful trip, and a change of places and experiencing another attitude towards life are good; and especially the taxi drive back to the airport was adventurous - when our first driver arrived at our hotel with a white Tesla which was missing one fender - an accident, so he called a colleague to step in - and, very different from Germany these days the Italian Leonardo express train to the airport WAS punctual -- well, we made it.. just in time... and I was oh so thankful NOT to have to drive through this traffic in Rome.
