Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Wildflower-Bouquet of May

I sometimes wonder if I use the right word (bouquet) for the arrangement of a few wildflowers which I gather on my walks. "Bunch" might be more suitable?

Today you find "A Study in Scarlet": dove or pigeon scabious, lucerne and one soft pink dog rose

I'm sorry to say that the photo does not show the many colour values of the lucerne, but as May is almost over in the blink of an eye this has to suffice.

I opt to make things simpler, thus I decided to put the blog about plants and garden into "You are witty and pretty".

The love of plants is part of my life, and a joy.

  1. Me too :) Yes a bouquet is a bunch of flowers, but it is usually arranged and not just grabbed together.

    1. Dear Helen, so it is a "bunch". "Bouquet" sounds too big and elegant.
Yet one footnote: I invest time and thought to choose the wildflowers, in colour and appearance, I do not "grab" them. :-)

  2. Really lovely to see you here again Britta - love your pretty little bouquet of wild flowers often referred to as a nosegay or tussie-mussie way back in the middle ages.
The year is rushing by far too quickly, I want to stop the clock.

    1. Dear Rosemary, so glad to see you again, too!
And I am really enchanted with the term of the middle-ages - might call the next wildflower-post "My Tussie-mussie of June"! Thank you!

  3. I think it's a bunch until you arrange it, then it becomes a bouquet. I didn't realize you had another blog, so I'm glad you're combining them, then I won't miss your plant posts.

    1. Dear Boud, my favourite blog is "Britta's Happiness of the Day" (a little neglected at the moment - it is a flip chart with photos I took and added poems) and the second (which I now integrated here) about gardens and flowers was "...sunshine, freedom and a little flower" - a cutting from my former blog "Gardening in High Heels"

  4. Your arrangement is lovely. My mother used to arrange flowers from her garden. It gave her such satisfaction.

    1. Thank you, dear Emma! I always enjoy my strolls through the country here and seldom come back with empty hands.
Your mother will have enjoyed her flowers twice: seeing them grow in her garden - and then gorgeous in a vase on the table.

  5. Recently I went to an anniversary party completely arranged and catered by the children/grandchildren of the couple. On every table was a bouquet very like yours. It was so charming.

    1. Dear Joanne, I love children's bunches so much! They are cheerful and unconventional. And the children also did the cakes? It will have been a wonderful party!

  6. Oh yes, it's a bouquet,
    I absolutely love bunches,
they have a romantic touch that the fanciest florist's bouquet can't match.
So glad to hear from you Britta!
    Have a beautiful new week!

  7. Dear Katarina, thank you! Blogspot put your (and Boud's) comment first into the Spam folder - now I start looking that through.
Wildflowers never last very long in vases, but have such a charming aura that I prefer them to the "bouquets" of a florist - though of course I do love those too. Have a beautiful week!

  8. Dearest Britta, apologies for being so late to admire your little posy of wildflowers, which I suspect are just a memory now, so thank goodness you immortalised them in photo :) I would probably say that I was out gathering a bunch of flowers and stuck them in a vase and stood back to admire my little posy, and then wondered if I nosegay was a better term, hahah!

I very much appreciate all the beautiful things that find their way into your blog(s). Somehow this year has really seen me unable to stop by and smell the roses as regularly, and even tend to my own virtual garden, but I'm pleased to read you, and my other blog friends, are thriving!

    1. Dear Pip, I do understand fully that one takes a holiday from bogland - I did that too. Yes, the posy is now in another world, trying to be "sustainable" (meaning I threw ist - with a little "Thank you" on my lips into the compost. (Won't be a noosegay now, come to think of it :-).
I hope to see you soon again - the really fine objets d'art (and wit and fun) are always in your blog.

  9. I enlarged the photo and it shows your beautiful purple bouquet or bunch to great effect. I love gardening too. I am going to show a photo of my bouquet of dandelions soon, picked in my back yard.

    1. Dear Terra, thank you! I am eager to see your photo of the dandelions - I really think that they belong to the most beautiful flowers, and if they were rare, more people would notice that!
