I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As I go to Berlin till the first week of January tomorrow, I might have no good internet there - and thus I will be - once in a blue moon - silent. (Eventually :-)
I go by train tomorrow - we have lots of snow, and I am seriously nervous. I'll show you a German drawing (and translate it):
Train: "Scheduled departure somewhere between 9:00 and 11:00 o'clock, scheduled arrival somewhere between 17:00 and 20:00 o'clock."
People at the gate: "Since these new train schedules the railway is finally punctual again!"
Well, I try to enjoy THIS DAY: the beautiful landscape and the triplets, whom I will miss over Christmas very much.
Everyone should be healthy, safe and at peace. No bushfires, hurricanes, covid outbreaks, wars or poverty.
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful wish for these complicated times, and for all times. Thank you, Helen!
ReplyDeleteHug the triplets - travel safely Britta and stay warm. You will back with your three little granddaughters again soon and they will enjoy showing you what they received at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteGlad your trains are punctual - ours are practically nonexistent.
See you again in 2023 on your return💚
Your train translation is very good for us Britta, thank you. Have a great Christmas in Berlin and think of all those wonderful things you can do while you are there in your home in the metropolis. The snowy landscape scene you produce here is very picturesque. Have a great Christmas if I don't hear from you any more in the meantime. Rachel x
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the train. The snowy pictures are lovely. Merry Christmas/
ReplyDeleteSafe travels and have a marvellously Merry Berlin Christmas, dear Britta! The triplets will miss you, too, but will be delighted that they get to tell you all their tales and relive their festivities all over again when you return in January, not least as you will no doubt come not empty-handed :)
ReplyDeleteSee you in the New Year! xx
Wishing you a Happy Christmas Britta. Enjoy all the joys of the holiday while reconnecting with your wonderful Berlin.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good Christmas in Berlin, Britta. Then come back for triplets.
ReplyDeleteSnow on a rose!
ReplyDeleteHope your travel went well Britta - and that it's not too cold.
ReplyDeleteThat was really sad about the aquarium exploding at the Radisson Blu hotel. Poor fish and sea creatures.
Stay safe and have a good holiday season.
Hugs - Mary
Dear Britta,
ReplyDeleteSeason's Greetings. I sincerely hope that you managed to travel to Berlin safely. I wish you and your family a happy, healthy, safe and peaceful Christmas. May all your Christmas wishes come true and may the spirit of Christmas shine a bright light in your heart.
PS. I hope that you might want to try W. G. Sebald's novels. Being a bilingual, you might be able to read it in the original language in German. I read them in English translation by Anthea Bell. Crafted with her unmistakable diction and elegant style (one literary critic refers to it as "Bellbald"!), Bell was an incredible writer in her own right.
In his review of a Sebald's novel, Will Self in The Guardian newspaper praises Bell's translation as follows: “it’s doubtful that the eminence of WG Sebald would be quite so great in the English reading world were it not for Anthea Bell’s magnificent translations of his works. Indeed, given quite how important a translator is—often effectively rewriting the original—it might be better to speak of a hybrid creature: ‘Bellbald,’ perhaps.”
What pretty snow scenes, have a safe journey.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a very merry Christmas Britta. Have a wonderful time and 'see' you in 2023. XXXX
ReplyDeleteAnd a happy new year - as i came to this post late. I wish I were going to Berlin sometime soon - one day perhaps
ReplyDeleteThank you all so very much!
ReplyDeleteNow that I am back in Bavaria I will soon write a new post and hope that you all enjoy a good new year 2023.
