Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Nature's Mysteries

Now that I have Internet in Bavaria, I can come into contact with the world again.
I am here since almost three weeks - the Flying Dutchman left a few days ago, and I try to arrange the last (the last?? Hahaha) equipments for my second, very rural domicile.

With the triplets we do very long walks - WE walk (most often my Daughter in Love and I), the triplets are riding in a fashionable electro mobile, motor necessary because here are steep hills, sometimes with a gradient over 9%.
When I say long walks I am speaking of 10 - 13 km, and those very often in the sun - because around 14 o'clock the triplets shall sleep, which they do in that mobile.

And I enjoy the beautiful nature here. See so many plants I know - but now I came upon something (with no time to make good photos - first time on May 30) that made me fall back for a second: WHAT IS THAT? on a lake?

Second time we went by I also had no time (the electro mobile runs fast) - but I managed a snapshot, the flowers no longer in abundance - and which my Apps did not recognise - I use PlantNet, Andy Green and Flora Incognita.

Do you know what that is? Thank you for your help!

PS:  I've found it! (I think...):
It might be ALISMA - maybe lanceolatum, or Alisma gramineum.

  1. As much as my children were gorgeous when they were young, I would have been utterly exhausted by triplets. Let alone hikes of 10-15 ks a day!!! I am so impressed.

  2. Dear Hels - yes, it is quite a challenge (especially at days that are sunny - and that is not very prudent either). On normal days it is ok - at my age it is also training for my fitness ( I cancelled my fitness studio in Berlin :-)
I enjoy everyone and everything, but in the evening I am also quite happy to have rented that little flat of my own.

  3. Sounds like a divine way to spend the summertime in the countryside Britta, and I know your family must love having you close by. How old are the triplets?
Perhaps water lilies on the pond?
Enjoy each day........I know you must sleep well at night after those long walks!

    1. Dear Mary, the triplets become two years old in September. They are a lot of fun! I would like to show photos, but - and I do understand that - am not allowed to post some.
First I thought of waterlilies too - but these here are very small white flowers - building huge round "plates" on the water. Well - I will find out sometimes, thank you for your tip.
And it is true: I enjoy every day - especially after a long solitary time in Covid-19-time in Berlin. Britta

  4. The scenery on your walks looks very beautiful Britta. I try to imagine the triplets in their electro mobile. I could not walk so far as you! xxx

    1. Thank you, Rachel - it looks like a holiday prospect every day!
I will try to take a photo of the electro mobile (without the triplets :-)
Today I insisted on playing in the terraced garden - we had 34 ° C! xxx

  5. What beautiful scenery. Some of my ancestors are from Bavaria. And I will watch to see what they are when someone smarter than I tells us.

    1. Thank you, Emma! Which area are your ancestors from?
And yes: I will be very glad to find out with your help which plants these flowering "foam" are.

    2. I'm not sure. I am still in the beginning stages of the family tree.

    3. Thank you! Have you seen my added note, that I perhaps have found out what it is?

    4. I did see the note. I still have no idea what they are so research is in my future.

    5. I am looking forward to the results of your research and am really, really interested. Thank you, Emma!

  6. Pleased to see you back. Looking after children is said to keep you young. Triplets must keep you three times as young.

    1. Tell me that in the late afternoon, Tasker! :-)
But you are right: I do learn from them - and learning (and moving) keeps one young (hopefully).

  7. Living close to family and being surrounded by beautiful countryside scenery sounds perfect. Your photo of the pond showing the flowers looks to be a blooming aquatic grass. I am not familiar with aquatic grasses so am no help with a full identification. It is good to see you blogging again.

    1. Thank you, Susan! I think you are right with the aquatic grass - I put my photo into plantnet - but was not satisfied with their answer - then I asked the community - and still wait.
One thing for sure: I will find it out, I have the intention.

Thank you and Tasker for your kind words about my blogging again.

  8. I am so happy you are spending time helping with the babies. They need to know you from their beginning.

  9. Dear Britta, such good news all round! Babies, Bavaria and Billy & Co, hahah. I expect you are already rather a fit lady but I would imagine another dozen kilometres daily, at a cracking pace, will make you even more so. Your DIL must appreciate the extra pair of hands and the babies must just love having you there, period! You're in for a memorable and lovely summer!

  10. Thank you, Pipistrello! Yes, fitness is necessary - otherwise I could not help very much (though I stop at lifting the little ones - I can't, as my back reminded me when I spent 2 hours working in their terraced garden with the Flying Dutchman).
To accept one's boundaries - and respect those of others :-) and vice versa (!) is important.
(I always said: "I want to live at least that far from my child that everyone has to put on a coat if it is cold outside to visit each other")
I'm looking forward to this surprising summer.
