Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Surreal Impressions of Berlin

Dear You,

Here I show you some of the photos I took on my very first ride in Berlin. (I never use photoshop).

Enjoy my little pleasure trip as much as I did! (Or does that sounds like Hyacinth Bucket - eh, Bouquet - with her Waterside Supper with added Riparian Entertainments...?)

Somewhere I read: "Courage is fear that has said its prayer and decided to go forward anyway."
Yes - it was a victory over myself - but no need to instantly build a victory column!

  1. Dear Britta, please excuse my absence from your comments section recently. I have been unwell. Your photos are splendid. I too have a new bicycle (in our barn) but have not yet taken it very far. Hope to in the near future. Have read your excellent comments on absentee --mail-in-- ballots in prior posts and must agree. There is indeed general warning of Trump-based misrule --defunding and corruption in the post office. His toadies designed and imposed it. An administration is supported by its constituents. I hope, in November, we will pull our shoulders from under, and let this one come down.

    1. Dear Geo., I hope so much that you are getting better soon, I wish you that with all my heart and think of you!
Thank you that you like the photos.
My newest way with politics: I try to avoid to see too much TV about it - it makes my heart unwell, I mean that literally - I stay informed by a newspaper, that is enough. As you II hope that in November things are getting better - seen from far away it is unbelievable what we see.
Then, I hope, you can take your bike out of the barn and ride - have you better temperature in that month than we have in Berlin? (November: lots of rain, and very fresh air...)
Get well soon, Geo. ! Britta XX

  2. Excellent photos, Britta. Very lovely sites to enjoy as you cycle along. The more you venture forth on your bicycle, the experience grows better and better. You are inspiring me to get a bicycle. Fall is a nice time of year for bicycling. Thank you for sharing your story.

    1. Thank you, Sue, and you are right: I get better balance , find it easier to "mount", and become more courageous (though not reckless :-)

  3. I am reminded of the angels of the city in Wim Wender's film. In the other pictures the colours of greens, yellows and blues are an inspiration for paintings, Britta. Thank you.xx

    1. Yes Rachel, the Wim Wender's film was exactly taken there.
When I saw the photos I thought too of paintings - the funny thing is that on a flea-market a year ago I found a little painting that resembles it in a way.
      Thank you! xx

  4. The quote about courage is exceptional. I enjoyed our bike ride together. And may I tell you that every time I read your 'mantra' You Are Pretty And Witty on your header It makes me feel good about myself.

    1. I am glad you liked our ride, Emma! The little porcelain box with the motto I found when years ago I went to Hastings in England for a month - I think it so uplifting!

  5. That column reminds me of 'Wings of Desire' and your late friend, Bruno Ganz.

    1. Yes, it is that column - and I see it when I bike through the Tiergarten, Tom. Where do you know from that wonderful Bruno Ganz was a friend (to be honest: just an acquaintance) of mine?

    2. Hope this is not the first sign of loss of (my) memory :-)

  6. Do you pass the victory column often in your rides? I think your pictures and your quotes more impressive.

    1. Yes, I do Joanne. In Berlin it i not easily overlooked - that golden angel is very high up - though of course the Fernsehturm on the Alexanderplatz is higher :-) I'm glad that the pictures and the quote pleas you! xx

    1. Haha, Pipistrello - thank you!
I am impressed that you wrote your appreciation on a stiff cardboard italic printed note and not on a scrappy piece of paper!

For Keeping up a certain standard I use too specially printed notes on a heavy white card with an embossed edge with matching self-seal envelope, printed by the gross (if I can be excused using such a word in these days of decimalisation). They are sized six inches by four inches (no metric will do), and stand well on any mantlepiece

    2. Glad to hear of your civilised ways in Berlin, Britta. Your cards send the right note. Appearances are everything, after all.

    1. Thank you, Jackie! I was surprised by those colours too - and as I say: I never use photoshop or anything like that (same as: no colour on my hair & no "nip and tuck" - I see beauty in every stage/ age of life). XXXX
