Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Terror at our Doorstep

You will have heard the news.
Terror, horror, complete bewilderment, compassion, grief.
The city is very silent this early morning.
I live seven minutes away from the Berliner Gedächtniskirche and the Breitscheidplatz, where the attack happened. Yesterday evening walking the nearby Fasanenstraße, I wondered why so much police was around.
I woke up at night - still not knowing what had happened - when the SMS and WhatsApp and Email questions started to drop in, asking if I was safe.

I am - but I am deeply, deeply grieving for all those who have lost their life or their health, and those who have lost their loved ones.

  4. It is so awful. The poison is spreading. I am worried for the future. Such complicated reasons for such simple acts.

  5. So glad to hear that you are alright - I immediately thought of you when I heard the news. What an awful act of atrocity at a time when there should be peace and goodwill to all men.

  7. I knew it close to where you are. I am thankful you were not in the middle of it all. I am also full of sorrow for everyone who was involved. I try to understand how someone can do something like that but I just can't. I simply don't have words to try to comfort these victims and I won't try. But my sorrow is profound.

  8. Britta... My heart immediately leapt at the thought of you, my sweet friend and your loved ones, in the midst of such terror. Such horror and heartache... there are no answers. Prayers for strength, comfort, and above all, peace. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your city, and country.

  9. Thank you all - it is really consoling to read your comments. I think of the 12 people who lost their lives, and their relatives and friends, and of those 48 people who are in hospitals - I think half of them are home now, but others are fighting with death.
They are not sure if they caught the attacker - and were warning us that if that is the case the real terrorist/s might be still out here with weapons.
