The Berliner Fernsehturm as Model

 Dear You,

the world seems to become crazier every day - though a glimpse into literature or history books will show us that "There is nothing new under the sun" (with the huge difference that now WE are afflicted...)

Sometimes afflicted in a way that I can not imagine - think of Yael - I can only helplessly feel and pray for her.

And I feel a bit ashamed about moaning in my blog about petitetesses, everyday catastrophes like power cuts or snow in masses

But that is my life.

In the picture above you see my cozy Danish lamp, an orchid that will flower (again!) soon, AND if you are very attentive: a ravishing model of my great friend, THE point of orientation in Berlin: the Berliner  Fernsehturm - Berlin's television tower.

The real one is with 368 meters the highest building in Germany, built in 1969 in East Berlin. The copy above I found on a flea market in Berlin (and willingly paid a lot) - an original, one of the models that were sold on the day of the opening of the Fernsehturm.

You can use it as a lamp, too!  Though, come to think of it: I will - after one test - not try it again - my last personal power cut is too fresh in my mind...

  1. I always assumed previous centuries were more miserable - more disease, poorer housing, less food, longer working hours etc. Yet modern epidemics etc seem just like earlier epidemics etc

    1. Dear Helen, I think that every century has its own plagues. Of course I do not want to go back in time - we in our part of the world have a life with many amenities - yet deep down mankind hasn't changed that much. Good ones and bad ones - always.

  2. Hello dear Britta - it's been a long, long time but I'm still here now and then in Blogland but have had little time to post much the past year! Glad to know you are well despite weather issues - a really harsh winter for many around the globe.
My lovely Bob is not well and now 'terminal' after 19 months of cancer treatments that have not helped kill off the what has to be the worst disease with all its treacherous types. Our time together is limited and we are trying to make each day together special. Memories of our travels keep us going these difficult days.
I still haven't made it to Berlin, and probably won't, so enjoy your stories of the city and the lovely countryside where you have made your home.
Blessings for this new year. Stay well and be happy dear friend.

    1. Dear Mary, I often think of you and your dear husband Bob! Both of you have such a lot to carry - and I send you my best wishes for stamina. Cancer treatment is so hard to bear (I have a friend, she has to endure it too - she had just retired and then the doctors detected cancer!)
I can only send you my empathy, I cannot give solace. The only good thing is that you both are not alone and you are with him. All my best wishes to you both!

  3. I'm glad you have your power back. In my reality it is cold and I'm tired of it. Others have it much worse I know. They don't have to wipe my runny nose.

    1. Dear Mimmylynn, yes, I am happy too - one often can only appreciate something when it is suddenly missing.
I love your saying which I never heard before - "Others have it much worse I know. They don't have to wipe my runny nose." Hahaha! Britta
