Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Holly Golightly - Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I was always fascinated by the name "Holly Golightly" in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Nowadays I try to travel that way - lightly - and what you see above is one of my two "posh" little suitcases (the other one is sensible grey-silver-black :-)

They are of the size that is allowed as hand baggage - and as I always try to minimise weight and number of things I take with me, I can survive with one (!) of these suitcases for a week. The most difficult problem are always the shoes - of course I wear my trainers or boots on my feet, but if one has dresses to wear that will not do (young people think differently about it - and yes - I prefer to run through a city in trainers too - but then with Jeans, not a dress).

The two suitcases (the glamorous pink one is from Heidi Klum's Next Top Model :-) ) are in hot demand by the triplets. The run with them through my flat - well, and the suitcases look a bit more -- used.---

But they still are in one piece - thus one will tomorrow accompany me in the train to Berlin (hopefully, as since two days I have a cold - NO covid, no fever - just a plain old cold).

And the KaDeWe in Berlin has a Tiffany Shop. Though they do not serve breakfast there :-)

  1. Are you buying a suitcase for the twins, or one to replace the one of yours you are giving to them?

    1. They use the suitcases I use (and I cry: "Attention! Careful! I still have to use them!" Till now it works - the suitcases are in my second home here in Bavaria.

  2. Shoes are ever the killjoy for going lightly in the travel department! I never find fault with size 40 feet until it comes to packing, when I wish instead for tiny, dainty shoes which shod tiny, dainty feet - hahahah!!

    1. True, Pip - packing shoes are a nuisance. Though I have very small feet (and I am tall), I do not see much difference that size makes in packing - but I am very, very happy that the time for Highheels is (at least for me) over - and the acceptance of sneakers in general is a wonderful present of the fashion in our time.

  3. I know this is not what you had in mind, but there were 8 Helens in my year at school. I would have loved being called Holly Golightly, or Natasha or Anastasia... anything more exotic than Helen.

    1. I do understand your wish, dear Helen (the triplets indulge in using always the same strange names for themselves, between themselves: one calls herself "Mrs. Turtle", the other "Heidi", the third "Coco". Funny - because they have extraordinary beautiful names - and, well...very generous of the parents... each(!) got three beautiful names in her passport.

  4. Having one carry on bag is even more important today. Due to staffing issues bags are getting lost. People are warned to use only a carry on.

    1. True, Susan: I fear my flight to Brussel next week - and will clutch my pink carry on - hopefully not for hours while waiting for the security check....

  5. In addition to flights being cancelled, I'm hearing about lost baggage due to lack of baggage handlers. The carry-on bag is recommended due to the latest problem.

    1. Thank you, Jackie - we all love it - though it is a tiny wee bit chichi (but not to much, not garish).

  7. Wow! So many comments - I couldn't see them, sorry, and will answer soon - because I was in Berlin without a computer, and Blogspot handles comment differently: I have to "allow" them now, they do not spontaneously appear under my post, as they did before.
I am back in Bavaria (though not for long) and will answer. xxx
