Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Snippet: When I get up in the morning

This is the view I have here in Bavaria early in the morning. VERY early in the morning. The earlier I go to sleep (hahaha - with the hens, we say in Germany and I feel almost guilty that it now sometimes means 22:00 -- but then: I am tired by highly amusing workouts with the triplets) the earlier I wake up - has some logic, come to think of it.

Early sounds are: a cock, the little red train (hooting on unguarded railway crossings) - and some cars in a distance.

So have a good morning and a bright day!

My Quote of the day:

Anthony Quinn: "Even with 60 you still can be 40 - but only for half an hour per day."  (rough translation by me)

  1. The world basically consists of morning people and evening people. I never go to bed before midnight, so I am incapable of thinking clearly till midday. Fortunately my beloved is exactly the opposite, so the children always had one adult to care for them.

  2. Oh Helen - same with me! Our only son was glad to have a lark (= me), and an owl (husband). Nowadays I thrive in the evenings when something exciting is happening - (which I easily am, excited,) but in Covid-time those triggers become less. More of the wonderful book I can read next morning, TV isn't very exciting, and in Bavaria cinemas, bars and exhibitions (and friend) are far... Very different from Berlin.

  3. But who brings you the fruit, egg, fruit juice and cup of tea?

    2. PS: What looks like "fruit" is more substantial: every morning I eat porridge with apple and nuts, an egg, freshly ground (?? pressed?) orange-juice - and drink tea.

  4. There is an old proverb stating: "Early to bed, early to rise makes a man (woman) healthy, wealthy and wise." This is associated with Benjamin Franklin (1735) but also goes back to earlier times. I like the morning but lately seem to sleep in to 8 AM. Bedtime is usually 11-midnight.

    1. Dear Susan, I envy you to be able to sleep that "long"! When I was young I could sometimes sleep till 10 o'clock - during my long working time I thought: wow, later you can sleep as long as you can... now I wake with the early morning rays of the sun. And it is not depending one the time I go to bed.
I love Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography - he was a wise man.

  6. I set my alarm for eight a.m., and usually get up at 7:30 and turn it off. I like your recitation of your alarm clock sounds.

    1. I found out that if I have to set an alarm clock I sleep longer - must be a sort of funny rebel in me - but that person is clever: I cannot fool her, it must be a real event.
The sounds outside I decided from the very beginning not to get angry at - I hear them but weave them into the sound carpet of my light sleep.

  7. Oh Britta, I'm terrible ..... I go to bed far too late. I stayed up all night to watch The Australian Open tennis for a fortnight !!! I'm sure it's not good for me. I have never gone to bed before midnight apart from when I worked which was years ago. I take after my Dad ..... he was exactly the same. XXXX
