Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Advent calender

This is my Advent calendar for this year. I bought it in November - because I found out that Father Christmas is on this calendar not only utterly mobile, using trains, sledges, ships - but also carries the national flag.
And The Father Christmas who comes to the Netherlands is there in two versions - two times!

  1. Your images here look very splendid. I have never really understood Advent calendars as they did not feature in my life as a child nor in school and I have never had one. x

    1. Thank you, Rachel! It is never too late :-) , I like the way they build up expectation. I once embroidered a beautiful one for my son - though after a few years found it really stressful to find 24 little packages.. He owns it now - maybe the triplets like it.
I prefer the simple paper ones.

  2. It could only be better if there were two windows for the 25th.

  3. Nice whimsical illustrations on your calendar. With snow coming tomorrow, as they say, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."

    1. Oh you are lucky, Susan, to get snow! In Bavaria the triplets experienced the first time in their life snow - well, they are just a little bit over 1 year old. But we do have no snow at all - though it is cold in Berlin.

  4. It's a beautifully illustrated Advent calendar and it looks as if you could spend hours pouring over all the fine details.

    1. Yes, Rosemary, thank you - I love all those "historical" vehicles he comes with - and so many countries to visit!

    1. Thank you, Jackie - I also look for a nice one every year. Curiosity: there is a bookshop in the Knesebeckstrasse, who has beautiful ones all year long in his shop window, (the old owner is a bit peculiar) - though I think: everything has it's time :-) XXXX

  8. What a beauty! And Father Christmas is rather the diplomat with his flags. What lies behind the windows?
