Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Starting a Kind of Berlin Diary

I adore Tom Stephenson's blog, and Rachel's and Joanne's and Cro's, and one of many reasons is that they all write a sort of diary.

I write diaries since I can write.

The first one (I still own it) is a little vocabulary book sewed (by me) with big stitches in a green & white striped paper cover. I wrote with pencil, and was furious when I discovered that my little sister had crossed out some sentences - she thought a correction of the "quarrel" between us was necessary.

Since that day I made sure that nobody could get at my diaries - and what I try here on the blog will, of course, differ very much from the private ones I write for myself, though I will give you my personal view of my living in Berlin.

I am curious how it will work out. One thing is sure, little sister:

                                                                  I'll do it my way.

  2. I also look forward to seeing some of your daily life in Berlin Britta. The more mundane the better as this can also be the most interesting for your readers. Thank you for your kind reference to my blog. xxx

    1. Yes, Tom - in Germany we have a saying "Your ears must ring" when we talk about someone in his absence. As I really love your blog, I feel completely calm and happy.

  4. I, too, would love to hear about the Berlin day-to-days! And it's not that any would fact-check you (as if, the cheek of it!), but your declaration does intrigue me.

    1. Dear Pipistrello, I found out that so many things in life are utterly fantastic that, If I write them down, nobody would believe me - they might think that I made it up.
Often it does not even need a touch of deeper colour or some more adjectives to make it funny - life often is funny without our assistance.

  5. I, too, will look forward to your diary documenting life in Berlin. That was a bold move on the part of your little sister.

    1. Dear Susan - at that age (7) most of us were very bold - without even thinking about it. We followed our intention - no "little censor of good manners" in our head!

    1. I hope you still think so in three weeks, Joanne! :-)
PS: Come to think of it: Me too...

  7. Keeping a diary is a marvelous idea. I started so many when I was younger. We moved so many times and it seemed that my diaries were sacrificed to make room for more important things. Now I write a blog to leave my thoughts for my descendants.

    1. Thank you, Emma! So sad that those many diaries where sacrificed - I always clang to them as dear life. But of course: if you have a large family room is very important too. But to write your blog is a fine alternative.
