Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Cinemas in Berlin in time of Corona

That's how our Cinema Paris greets us these days:

"WE SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN!" says the red line.

And: "STAY HEALTHY!" the blue.

The Cinema Paris at the Ku'damm is one of the lovely old-fashioned cinemas.
Berlin has 97 cinemas - with 288 film-saloons, and  50.959 seats (in 2017).
What will happen in the future? Will they have to reduce their seats to place people in a distance of at least 1,5 meter?
When will they be allowed to open again?
And how many of the cinemas will survive?
I wish so much to see film-titles in red and blue again!

  1. I am missing the cinema too Britta and I also have fears about the future for some of them.

    1. For two years I had a special abonnement, Rachel, which allowed me to go whenever and how often I liked into 17 York-Kinos - very good cinemas, and I used it a lot. I tested them all 17 - which brought me in many parts of Berlin I had never seen before :-)
Yes, I fear for those little "Programm-Kinos", which have often special (not main-stream) movies.

    2. I also have such an card Britta, and have been going to the cinema two to three times a week. I just read your reply to Tom, and I cannot bear the smell of popcorn nor the noise of sweet wrappers, but during the day when I go and can easily distance myself from them, and often have the cinema to myself so can be alone. I hope this can and will happen again.

    3. I do that often too, Rachel , go there in the early afternoon, - but even then there are lots and lots of people there.
The best I ever had was a movie for children - at that early time - and we were only two spectators: one woman in the front row, and I in the back :-)

  2. I stopped going to the cinema a long time ago - mainly because I like watching films alone!

    1. I do well understand that, Tom, and I hate those viewers who unwrap their sweets all movie long, or the smell of popcorn (and the crunch) which is sold in elephant-foot-thick containers... and people eating it mindlessly all the time...
BUT I do love a big screen, that is so different from the many DVDs I have.

    2. Exactly, but I prefer a tiny screen to people eating pop-corn.

    3. As I told you in Bath: you and my son would match perfectly! (Though now, with the triplets, he will have not much time to stare at a screen)

  3. My neighbor and I went almost every week to the movies. I miss that.

    1. Yes, Joanne: I often had (and will have again, whenever they open up) meetings with my friends - afterwards a café or a little restaurant - I miss that too!

  4. Uncertain times Britta for many. This is why I will not moan about my lot as I am so fortunate. When I see those on the frontline, staying in with a garden, food and beautiful weather seems OK ! But, of course, we all want life to return to some sort of normality. Look after yourself Britta. XXXX

  5. Dear Jackie, same here: one can buy almost everything in the food-stores, sun is shining, I have a large balcony, and the air very, very clear :-)
