Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

A Few Days in Tirol, Austria

We were so lucky: the weather in Austria was utterly fine, and thus The Flying Dutchman was able to show me many places where he had stopped with his parents on their way to Italy - long time ago.

The little village... and vibrant nature...

A Wallfahrtskirche that was a bit spooky (inside) ...

But outside the sun and after a good icecream-coffee ...

... the scary impression was blown away... like dandelions ...

...waterfalls ...

We went up to a mountain in Hopfgarten, the Hohe Salve, that is over 1800 m high

...flying lightly with the cable car (if that is the right expression for Seilbahn)

...over huge snow field (but it was hot!) - and then:
                                                What a sight!

  1. Lovely photographs Britta. It looks just like a holiday should, good scenery and happy smiles. I feel most envious of your holiday in the Austrian Tirol.

    1. Dear Rachel, having the beautiful weather we had, it was a really good experience. Last time I have been in Austria (Kärnten) I was a child - my parents took the tent and us and the VW - and off we went.

  2. It is beautiful country. I think some of my ancestors are from that region.

    1. Thank you, Rosemary - after my trips to Austria as a child, I visited mostly Vienna (which I adore) - and this now was a fine refreshing-course for the country-feelings.

  5. What gorgeous scenery! Mountains are such a novelty for me and when I see them while travelling I take far too many photographs, but they never really capture the enormity. Snow and green pastures, however, says it all!

    1. I am also coming from a "flat" country, Northern Germany - and I love that.
Mountains are very impressive, Pipistrello - but I have to admit they make me also a little bit nervous when they are too close -- the only way to overcome that feeling is - going up!

    1. Thank you so much, Joanne, that was as sweet and delicious as the ice-coffee - and yes, it was a holiday like that (though I have to admit that the shade of a white hat does a lot to make one look younger :-)

  7. Austria is very beautiful. I worked in Salzburg briefly. A wonderful city. I just wish the people were a bit more relaxed about rules and regulations. An old man shouted at me at midnight for parking on a yellow line...

    1. Hahaha, Tom - we also met regulations - whole villages are fighting over the title of ecofriendliest community - and that is fine - but not so relaxing...
On the other hand I experienced today in Berlin-Prentzlauer Berg, that my friend Gvantsa had to change her seat at one table 3 times because she was smoking one (!) cigarette - every time another person was disturbed - and we sat outside!!
"I say..." would Wooster say --- yet she stayed as polite as Jeeves...

  8. Dear Britta... what lovely photos of your wonderful holiday! You look so lovely and carefree... just the way you should on vacation! Thanks for sharing your trip... smiles... Susan

PS How lovely to see that dandelions and daisies grow there just as they do in my backyard! Isn't the natural world just beautiful?

    1. Dear Susan, thank you! Yes, the flora is wonderful intact- I have seen meadows as they used to be in my childhood - a huge variety of flowers and herbs. Love it! As you know I love nature and gardening - so wonderful!
