Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

Nature's Solo

Dear You,

this morning - it was still pitch-dark - I opened the door to my balcony - or so I THOUGHT - must have erred -- it was the door of my FRIDGE, wasn't it?
Cold - colder - coldest! WAHHH!
Shivering I did what I do every morning: took my mug with tea, entered the balcony-fridge, greeted Berlin (this time in a slightly hurried and muffled way) - and retreated instantly.
Recovered around noon, and went courageously into the Charlottenberger Schlosspark (only a few hardliners out there).
Free seats everywhere...

And from a very special balustrade ...

  1. Well done Britta for being a hardliner and capturing these beautiful ethereal photos for us all to enjoy in our warm, cosy homes.

    1. A cosy home is worth a lot in these cold days, Rosemary - and a hot beverage too!

  3. The photos are wonderful. Your sun must be gone early in the afternoon. And, brrrrrrr to that iron bench.

    1. Thank you, Joanne. Son told me that in Bavaria they had minus 21°C at night... but even our minus 10°C were enough to shockfrost my Christmas rose (Heleborus) - but it recovered.

  4. You entered into a beautiful aria. The song of winter called to you.

    1. Yes, Emma - it is lovely there, and winter sings a very clear tone, like breaking glass with a high decibel voice.

  5. Beautiful pictures Britta! Very cold here too. Minus 10 this morning on my balcony and plenty of snow in the south of Italy where winters are rather mild and it never snows; most homes there do not even have central heating!
    Greetings Maria x

    1. Thank you, Maria! I hope Italy will warm up soon - I do have a very special reason to hope so :-) Do luxury Palazzos in Venice have central heating??

  6. Your photos are beautiful, and Ireland's municipal parks are shamed by the glorious naming of the Charlottenberger Schlosspark.

    1. Thank you, Mise! The Schloss is really beautiful (though they always renovate something - thus a part is always in scaffolding.)

  7. Ooooo Britta .... it really is very cold all over Europe .... you stay warm.
It's not as cold here as our weather is coming from the Arctic whereas yours is coming from the jet stream .... I've probably got that wrong Britta .... all I know is that Europes weather is coming from a different place than ours !!!! haha I'm no meteorologist XXXX

    1. Today it is also very slippery - just saw a man fall down very, very badly. Good that cellphones exist - they could call an ambulance instantly - but it is a shock.
As to your gulf stream: I always envied you your palms in Gosford. XXXX

    1. Thank you, Geo., it was a lucky day - though very cold - and I had taken my camera with me (it is heavier than my smartphone) so I thought: I won't carry that in vain.

  9. Beautiful pictures, dear Britta. But I don't envy your deep-freeze weather. (Especially since it didn't even provide you with some snow to make a snowman!)
