Britta's Letters from her life divided between city-life in German's capital Berlin and life in a Bavarian village

The Brand New Testament

Dear You,
I started this year with fine resolutions, and so I packed many, many photos (2011 - 2014) onto a HDD - to make my computer run quicker. Well - and now I would have to search for a while to find a picture of the "Zoo-Palast" as illustration for 'cinema'. ..
Berlin is snowed in - or do you say: under?  We have two-figure minus Celsius degrees - together with what the BILD-Zeitung (the German equivalent of the SUN) calls "the Russian whip" - ice-cold wind, that makes us all grab our scarves after 10 minutes walk and put them in front of our faces - water running from our eyes... One feels a deep desire to hibernate. And on the radio they tell people who live in villages outside to start two (2!!) hours earlier to get here...
Why I go outside at all?
Well, I had a beautiful birthday present: a cinema card that allows me to visit 12 cinemas (some of them with 4 different cinema halls - and very good films) as often as I want for a whole year!
Yours Truly is in Heaven!
(Guess what I saw today?)

  1. It was 0 ' C degrees in Vienna today. We are now going to have a week of warmer weather they are calling a 'mini spring'. The graph is predicting a few days of 7 ' C. That's a super birthday present. Since you're truly in heaven I imagine you went to the new Star Wars film.

    1. I saw the little snowman on your blog - maybe the only one who will not enjoy a 'mini-spring'. And no, I wasn't -Yet - in Star Wars. Though I will.

  2. What a great birthday present - I am sure you will make good use of it. I think we need some of your cold weather here - it is much too warm and unseasonal at the moment.

    1. For the garden it will be fine to have lowest temperatures (for my balcony: wait and see).
Maybe I will have a new address: poste restante at Cinema Paris?

  3. You're funny. Good that a warm seat awaited at the end of the journey.

    1. Yes - the warmth made the few people there (it was an afernoon show) chatty (before the film).

  4. I can't begin to guess what you saw today, but would love to know! Meanwhile, do stay warm.

  5. We have been so fortunate here. We have more snow than we have had in a few years but the temperatures are fairly warm considering. Are you going to tell us which movie you saw? I would guess Star Wars since that was the last movie I saw.

    1. As I said to Gwil, Emma: Star Wars will follow. Enjoy the snow!

  6. Dear Brigitta, what a delightful and happy birthday present! As for guessing which film you saw, I'll leave others to find your cleverly placed clue.

    1. Thank you, Geo. Dupin! I did what Mr. E.A.Poe did in The Purloined Letter - put it into a place where one is used to see it, without thinking about it.

  7. A great birthday present, you will be snowed under with film going Britta. As for snow, we are not yet snowed in but colder weather is forecast for next week. Your friend Rachelxx

  8. So by now you all know: It was "The Brand New Testament" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brand_New_Testament) - very funny, disrespectful, poetic and surprising - I mean, who would have thought that God lives in an apartment in Brussel? (It came only now into German Cinema - I think because of synchronization. Of course I prefer 'the real stuff', and some of the cinemas on my subscription serve those too).

  9. Oh dear! you gave the answer too quickly I had just decided that you must have seen Le Tout Nouveau Testament, Britta.
I can't believe that you have such cold weather, here it is still very mild, but wet as you can probably imagine. If it had been cold here then I think that the people in the north of the country would be buried under snow and require digging out rather than being floated out.
Great gift to receive - you lucky girl♡

    1. Sorry, always a little bit in a hurry :-)
(Your way is better). I thought that you might find the answer.
Germany is weather-divided: the southern part has quite mild temperatures, around 10°C. Well - Berlin is extreme in all ways...

  10. I had to google the name of the film - it hasn't been released here and I've heard nothing about it. How was it?

    1. The best film I saw for a while - if a film makes you smile, feel inspired - that is a lot.
